It's still very far, at least decades, or even centuries, until we will be able to colonize another plantes, but our interest about them are still very high. Two days ago, April 18, 2013, this image was posted on Facebook, probably taken from NASA in some way, with information about 3 new planets that could host life... Scientists announced this Thursday the discovery of three planets that are some of the best candidates so far for habitable worlds outside our own solar system, and they're very far away.
