Scientists may need to use nuclear weapons to defend earth from asteroid

I can't say that I am surprised to watch that. There was a movie with Bruce Willis on an asteroid that it was closing dangerously to Earth and he went there to blow it up. Armageddon was it's name and finally Bruce avoid that - it was just another movie and people need to feel good about is ending. And, for the moment, Sky News has to report that a large piece of rock named 2024 YR4 could cause "severe damage" if it hits a major town or city like New York or Washington DC.

Scientists are warning that the large asteroid could collide with the earth on 22 December 2032, and the current odds of a serious strike are 1/67. It's not much for a normal human but in astronomy terms, that is significant

Astronomer David Whitehouse told Sky News that authorities may need to take measures to deflect the rock if it looks like a collision is likely, and using nuclear weapons may be an idea. Not a good one, but an idea.
